I never think about it as if they are either deranged or seek personal power, as Naomi Klein implies, for the simple reason that it's usually impossible to identify "them", their motives or their mental status. To me, it's easier to see the role of collectives like countries and, even then, it's often very difficult.

As far as people being deranged is concerned, I really do believe that the "psychological" professions, and that includes the drug companies that make psychologically active drugs as well as the doctors who prescribe them, have a lot to answer for. Indeed, I would contend that what constitutes "normality" is becoming harder and harder to establish. Consider President Bush as an example.
