Interesting observations.

I spoke with a Brazilian friend today(not elmat -g-)

He told me that when he was back in Brazil 3 months ago he was shocked at the price of fuel there. $75 US to fill his puny little Fiat.

gee, i thought ethanol was gonna save us.

I agree with your comments in general but we are not in a recession. A recession is defined as two quarters in succession with negative GDP growth.

Certainly growth in US has slowed down, but we won't be in negative territory in the 3rd quarter, and everything I read suggests the 3rd quarter will be the worst quarter.

By the way, the war in Iraq contributes 0.5% to the overall GDP -- all the military supplies and equipment being bought.
