I don't think it's really possible to reverse that. Only by cutting its financing in a huge way and prohibiting deficit spending. I think the size and incompetence of the federal government, and the manner in which it intrudes into each and every aspect of our lives, is the issue people understand as the most substantial problem we have. A politician who somehow taps into this frustration, much like Reagan did, could be immensely successful. We have seen the enemy and it is us.
