The 10% figure was exaggerated for effect.

And FEMA wasted untold millions/billions in its relief efforts. Perhaps folks in the Northeast did something useful with the ice it routed to Maine or wherever it was in New England that FEMA sent it. That's merely one example. I've got lots and lots.

The Federal government is wasteful and incompetent. But we allow that it be fed increasing amounts of our tax dollars. This site, though it is a liberal/left site, documents the Bush spending spree extremely well.

The more money we allow the federal government to spend, the more power it has over our lives. The more power it has, the less free we become.

In ten years, the federal budget has gone up by roughly $1 Trillion.

Has our increasingly ancient infrastructure (levees, roads, bridges, airports, etc.) been the beneficiary? Nope.

Has this massive amount of increased spending made any difference in the way we live? Not as far as I can tell.
