So long festering anti-communism is at the root of this stupid policy? Roger Cohen in todays NYTimes has an interesting op ed. He calls himself a liberal interventionist who supported bosnia and kosovo interventions and perhaps even Iraq to some degree. Where he lays blame is on the neoncons who believe in american domination, not american participation. He cites guys like Koucher and others who wanted to do to saddam what had been done to milosevec but not on americas terms. That go it alone mantra and mocking friendly countries who either disagreed with our policy or who wanted to build real coalitions brought us to this situation. There were plenty of liberal and conservative anti-communists who directed our policy during the cold war and did as well as could be expected. Then there were the vietnam deniers who still claim we won that war or would have won it etc.. Those vietnam deniers are running things today or at least were.
