Reason tells me that any doctrine or religion founded on the principles of peace and general well being is being corruptly interpreted when used to promote a venue which is brutal and heinous treatment of others.

What if the brutal treatment of others is conceived of as being for their own good, to bring them under the protection of the doctrine or religion, or to stop them halting the spread of the doctrine or religion?

The jihadis aren't hacking heads off just because they feel like it. It's for jihad in defense of the ummah. That's what they say. The communists said the same, with different terms. YOU can say it's corruption all you like, that doesn't change anything. Funny that, how these doctrines of universal peace and general well being, always seem to get corrupted in such similar ways.
