Is it impossible for you to envision a progressive islamic state, if not now, sometime in the future? Muslim yes, on the Turkish model. Islamist no. They are ideologically committed to a literal minded religion that is not my idea of progressive. Sharia is an all encompassing package. It covers religion, politics, daily life, marital relations, personal hygene, it's all one package. When you commit to Sharia, you commit to valuing believers more than unbelievers, and men more than women. You can't get away from it.
