People still ride horses. The work aspect keeps shrinking. My father tells me that his father and uncle had a farmall and that his uncle was proud of his team of Percheron. He would have them out plowing and such, but when there was any serious work to be done out came the farmall.

I rode for pleasure and was not granted even stubs of spurs for a couple years. The horses I rode thanked me for not having them.
