I'd be interested in knowing how many small business's have had to shut down because they can't keep up with all of the taxes and regulations in your area. Not sure who, if anyone, keeps track of that sort of information, but it sure does seem like states and localities haven't taken into account how raising and raising taxes affects small business, or the middle class for that matter. And no one seems to understand that we operate on a very tight budget and only manage to eke out a small............4-5% profit margin in a good year. That, and those tiresome charges leveled our way that we "don't pay our fair share" gets very old when you get up at 4:45 am every day and spend 12 hours working very, very hard.

We are in the process of doing a study to see just how much it costs us to stay in business. We're also planning on sitting down with our CPA soon for a bit of help with our evaluation so that we can plan for an early retirement.........if necessary.

A friend who is in the same position.........planning retirement...... I had lunch with a few weeks ago pointed out that we live in a community that supports 46 schools. I hadn't thought of it that way, and was glad to pay the price when my kids were attending those schools. They are very excellent schools. But now that they are out of school, we're probably going to have to move. We just do not want to spend what little money we can save on high property taxes. When we do, we will make sure that wherever it is, that kind of cost is not attached.

Kind of reminds me of what was said in that movie Network. We just aren't going to take it any more.

End of Rant~
