Yeah its very very subjective. Even when you try to make it objective by comparing stats you have to figure which stats to count, how much weight to give to each, and if you want to adjust for different rules. Also you have to consider efficiency vs. lifetime production. Then you have factors like how good of teammates a player had (and esp. how good of receivers and blockers if your measuring stats). If you want to count wins teammates on defense also matter. And how do you weight regular season, playoff, and superbowl (or non-superbowl championship) wins. Do you give a bonus for playing other positions well. How big of factor does the QB's runs count for? How much do you weigh winning percentage compared to total wins. Some people have computed averages of stats compared to other people in the same era. That is useful but how do you account for eras that have more or less talent than other eras? The stats can inform a decision on who you think is the best, and be used to bolster your argument, but there utility only goes so far, and your mostly left with opinion. As for your opinion. I'd certainly put Marino up there in the group at the top, but I'm not sure I put any one player as clearly at the top.
