No spin, Harris. The reactor was shut down. The cheating has to do with enriching uranium. Which, by the way, they were never even close to weapons grade uranium. With the number of centrifuges they had and assuming they could get the cascades to work, they could only produce gram quantities. And the cheating was more along the lines of violating the spirit of the agreement since enriching uranium wasn't covered. So, when Smirk canceled the agreement and started his Axis of Evil stuff, NK reactivated the reactor and started working on bombs based on plutonium. Again, Albright's comment was about NK enriching uranium that would have led to a bomb using U235. What they actually produced and tested, however unsuccessfully, wa a bomb based on plutonium. Which is what the Clinton era agreement was designed to head off. However, due to the brilliance of Dubya, NK went and did the thing that the Clinton era agreement was meant to head off. They developed a plutonium based bomb. So the current agreement just returns us to square one, with the possible exception of restricting NK from enriching uranium. Which a rational administration likely would have gotten 6 years ago. Now, I realize that reality doesn't match up with your bias. But the only spin here is yours.

Steve, like you said, the only way to deal with a liberal is with the facts: a) The "agreement" was made by Carter. Clinton was stuck with an obligation to provide a coal-rich nation with two nuclear power plants. b) Bush didn't invalidate the agreement. Clinton was the one who defaulted. No surprise; Clinton wanted the positive PR for buying peace without having to write the check. c) Because of that, North Korea started cheating before the hanging chads were counted in Florida, and well before Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech. d) We're further along than we were seven years ago. North and South Korea are now talking about formally ending the Korean War. I guess China got sick and tired of having to cover for Korea's Dr. Evil. Whodathunkit? Tenchusatsu
