Sure I would, but not even Microsoft can afford to do that.

How much blood needs to be spilled in the resulting price wars before Intel (or Microsoft) cries uncle? Is the result worth it?

AMD has been around for a long time. When they can compete, they are profitable and their stock rises. When they can't, they rely on lawsuits and hope to make up for their losses with mudslinging.
