I've read an article that suggested that the IAF raid over Syria allowed the Israeli military to trigger Syria's anti-aircraft radars and missiles. IAF AWACS picked up all of Syria's radar frequencies and other key data... Therefore, it makes sense to view the whole operation as a dress rehearsal before the real one (against Iran).
