Had they gotten the carriers it would have been ugly even with our industrial might. It also forced us to fight a carrier based war that basically proved the battleship obsolete. There were a lot of peacenik appeasers in the 40's also. I wonder if today the warriors among us wouldn't just slap them aside and open up a can of American ass whoop on somebody who pulled another Pearl. Al Qaeda hasn't succeeded in killing enough of us yet for that to happen. By all accounts they may never be in a position to do so again. They are dying at a rapid pace.
