The global automobile industry may be in for a shake-up of unprecedented
proportions.

Daimler-Benz AG, Germany's luxury auto maker and biggest industrial
firm, and Chrysler Corp., the No. 3 auto maker in the U.S., are engaged
in top-secret discussions about a merger, or even an acquisition of
Chrysler by Daimler, according to people familiar with the talks.
