another gaping whole in modern christian tradition is the idea people are condemned when they know nothing of the one true god.

first of all, this isn't just or decent, so a just or decent god wouldn't do it. second, it is contrary to the teaching of the bible. it just doesn't get more concise than this...

Mt 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.

one has to knowingly understand and reject god's spirit in order to commit the sin that leads to the second death (hint, not eternal life, but second death - why has christianity all but rejected the bible's actual teachings?). in context, jesus was being attacked by people who *knew* he was sent from god and wanted to do him harm anyway. they approached that line of knowingly rejecting god and jesus was telling them this was territory that they didn't want to tread.
