I don't know about last Ramadan, but the people of the ME have a tendency to attack their enemies during religious holidays. Loads of the Israel-Arab wars started during religious festivals. Sort of a get the other guy when they least expect it type of thing, I think.

Yes, the Arabs attacked Israel during holidays but not Arab ones. For an example, one war is noted as the Yom Kippur war when the Arabs attacked the Israelis during Yom Kippur. I don't ever recall one being called the Ramadan war.

Probably half the violence in Iraq is caused by the religious Shia. I would not expect them to act up during Ramadan.
