You had mentioned that your indicator was close to flatline for some time now.

I've seen several indicators that expect a sudden movement after a calm period.

"coiling" for instance. GZ=buy or sell wiggles. BB bands contracting.

many others. all are a calm before a storm, so to speak.

sell high and buy low. volatility that is.

If the VIX is low enough, then it makes sense to buy. Best time is during that "calm." Never betting the whole boat.

High VIX and with wide BB? .. then short puts and calls at the same time.
