I think the fact that so little is expected in the way of growth gives the SOX a lot of room to run higher if and when earnings expectations are pushed higher.

I know I expected a deeper market bottom last year than we got but Presidential Election years lead the government into supporting all kinds of incentives to keep the economy going.

BTW I loved this that you wrote back at the 1998 bottom:

Anybody volunteer to say "last rites" over the group? Sort of reminds me of Chuck Norris when he is after a particularly bad guy inWalker, Texas Ranger. He just keeps "whacking em" until they area pool of jelly on the ground.VBG

Longer term there will be winners and losers for sure but there are times when almost every boat rises. So far the SOX has not been participating much but next year should be a real winner unless I am way off. So what I have been doing is buying a basket of beaten down stocks. Some will rise more than others. Some may not rise at all but I'm not putting my eggs all in one basket and I'm not going to hold all that long either.

After taking your trip down memory lane - I went to shave.

It was easier to do ,being fully aware about here all those darn gray hairs came from.

That October 98 should go down as the poster boy for "BUT THE DIP" calls.

Great review - thanks Don!

Don't forget the price shown there for LRCX, $11.38, is pre the 3:1 split!

Seeing SFAM on the list.... ugh... I believe it is the only stock in this sector I actually lost money on... not a ton... but it ruined a good record! LOL

I had coffee and lunch with Jong Yoo Saturday. He and I met when were were some of the "non financial experts" on SI that liked LRCX back then... Funny to think this was 9 years ago! I've made some nice friends over this time and it would be nice to have lunch with you someday if you ever get out to the Silicon Valley... maybe meet up with Gottfried and get him to show us some pictures of his boat!
