MulhollandDrive, I think a metallic brush such as brass might be harmful for the delicate seasoned surface of cast iron.

The cheap nylon bristle scrub brush I use on everything at my sink works well enough with the combination of water and baking soda I described earlier. I doubt I would ever need anything more aggressive for my brushing on the cast iron.

I use brass brushes on my outdoor grill and other machinery. They always seem to get fouled with sticky gummy residues. Any advice on cleaning that stuff?
