Thats my experience too. Like Boy Scouts - maybe a little hokey sometimes but straight arrows.

I caught the tail end of the TV ad this morning and thought it sounded kind of fishy. Did a web search and found that background article.

Should you reconsider Romney? Yeah, I would keep your options open and not be overly influenced by one nasty attack ad. IMO, Romney and Thompson are the two most interesting Republican candidates. McCain is fading badly, and Giuliani has become somewhat of a joke.
