I've done many canoe trips in Canada where you pack everything you need into a canoe. It's hard work and not for everyone. I'm going to take my boys next summer. To them roughing it is staying at a hotel with basic cable, so we'll see how that goes. The best part of trips like that is the food. Everything tastes better outdoors, especially when you're hungry and tired.
