The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations

I think we are "apples and oranges" here, UW. The book is a good guide for going after outfits like a Sunni Al Qaeda. Iran is a classic "Commanding Heights" run country, with the Shia Mullahs in charge. Very much structured as a Theocracy. The one consistant theme we hear from the people there is "get rid of the Mullahs."

If we play the Vietnam game of striking military targets, we only arouse them and give the Mullahs even more control. The Military there is the "number two" source of power, and hitting their HQ's at the same time should be considered.

But if we hit the Mullahs and announce why, I think we win.

Of course, this discussion is strictly theoretical. Our leadership is oriented exactly the same way as they were in the 60s. They just can't think this way.
