Alcoa is never the most exciting of companies, but it is one of the first out of the gate every quarter among the Dow components (General Electric reports earnings Friday). Many companies are likely to follow the aluminum company’s trend, as the manufacturer is expected to report weaker-than-usual results in part due to the weakened dollar, which reduces the profitability of overseas sales. The company is expected to earn 65 cents a share, although the Whispernumber.com figure comes in at 74 cents a share.

No kidding. Westernized humans have now developed almost a full reliance upon their machinery to do their thinking -- it's a very modern form of dependency -- ask anyone beyond age 12 the last time they attempted to solve a math problem without resorting to a calculator. The best part (for them) is that they don't even need to understand how a calculator works, they only need to know how to operate one.

Those 12-year-olds come to believe that the answer provided is correct and that the calculator is infallible. Later some of the 12-year-olds grow up to find themselves running hedge funds, where a black box program they similarly don't understand does all their thinking and makes all their trading decisions. Nobody below a certain age finds any of this situation unusual.

It should be fairly obvious where I see this is all headed
