Isn't that the result of Prop. 13? Your assessed values lag actual value quite a bit due to Prop 13.

Boy they do in my area! My house was taxed on what I paid for it four years ago, and they've already increased the valuation $100,000.

If you own your home for a long time, the property tax assessments don't catch up to the market value.

Our neighbor died in April and the house...........which is very similar to ours.......2400 sq ft rambler on shy acre........just sold, and I'm really, really curious to find out for how much. I know the property valuation will be much higher than mine because of the sale, and wonder if they will try and value ours similarly even though we've been here for 31 yrs? They also built a very swanky development of million dollar homes at the bottom of our hill in 2005 called the Street of Dreams and we've been expecting our value to substantially increase. So far, it is the land that has taken a big jump in value.

I keep looking for it on Zillow but it hasn't shown up yet. There has been a sold sign on it for almost a month, but so far no one has moved in. I guess the deal hasn't gone through yet. I thought they put "Sale Pending" on signs where sale hasn't closed yet.
