This is King County, WA, home to Big Government and Big Brother.

They require permits for just about anything.

The only thing I'm a little nervous about is changing the access from the garage to the interior of the house. The county can get really snotty about staircases. Hubby is a general contractor so it is done right, but that probably won't carry any water with them even though he's generate 100s of thousands of dollars in sales tax for them through projects.

Stout's Lodge looks like a wonderful place to relax. Might check it out if we're ever in the neighborhood.
