Most of us here are in league with Ayn Rand koan, so you are in for some real disagreements, but on whole, we are a pretty good bunch that loves to digest, dissect and discuss.

There will always be people that can’t fend for themselves, but a lot of the people that could don’t.

Societie's rights trump those of any individual. ...
Society has not only a right, but indeed an obligation, to look out for the vulnerable.

Our society already does look out for the vulnerable in many ways. There is a "safety net".

The question is does it need to look out more for the vulnerable than it already does and does Hillary really have to raise our taxes because of that.

Then you move to my state and start contributing to my ex brother in law and his family that have taken the taxpayers for more money in free care and taxpayer funded monthly distributions than most of the poor suckers paying their way make in a year.

He, his sister and their brother........all able bodied to at least deliver mail, enter computer data, do telemarketing, and or a host of other jobs that don't involve physical work, have been scamming the system for years. Their whole family has made a business of taking advantage of "society." There are millions of folks out there like them who just love you and your ideology. They haven't had to contribute to our nation or care because you have made victims out of all of them. They just take and take and take. And I am cruel and heartless for making an issue out of it.

"Society has to make them mind-lol"

Really...........and if I don't, what is "society" (who ever that is?) going to do to me?

Ostracize me?

I'm really scared.

You're just talking repackaged socialism.

Efforts made by "society" to encourage personal responsibility are often pooh-poohed by the left in this country who tend to, or believe they, benefit from paternalistic programs that make people dependent on government, and by extension, the elected officials who keep the funds flowing.

There will always be a bottom tier of people who need the safety net and who will never be able to make much of a contribution.

But heaven forbid that we place heavy expectations on the rest for fear they might actually succeed beyond the need for the Hillarys of this world.

The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights, cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. AYN RAND

Congratulations koan, think of how much better life was in 2007 when you made your post, I cannot imagine what 2041 will bring.

Societie's rights trump those of any individual. And I say this as a hard core existentialist-lol. And I am a Sartre existentialist not a Kirkegard existentialist.-lol

Society has not only a right, but indeed an obligation, to look out for the vulnerable. Society is sort of a tribal of elders making decisions for the good of the tribe.

Charles Dickens child sweatshops of the 1800's England epitomizes why society has to watch out for sociopathic corporations and selfish individuals. I am not casting aspersions here, corporations by their very nature are sociopathic, and necessary and some people are selfish.

Selfish people want the protection of society, but not the obligation!! Society has to make them mind-lol!

So society has to provide the conscience for corporation, but even handedly, and so regulate corporations accordingly; and socieity should tax the amounts that are in the best interest of the society as a whole.

Indeed, it is societies integral right and obligation.
