What Iran has done, for the most parts, is to support the Shias against the Sunnis. It is unlikely that once they provide the support, they can have a material influence over who or what some Shia militia in the streets of Najaf shoots at.

I see you've stopped denying all military involvement. However, when Iran sends the Shia militias Qods forces trainers, and Hizbullah trainers, and sends Qods forces to kidnap American soldiers, that's more than "support."

Iran is also sending weapons to both Shia and Sunni insurgents.

General Petraus just said that the Iranian ambassador to Iraq is a Qods Forces officer.
