OK, but Islamic Jihad, a code name for Hezbollah, claimed responsibility for the truck bombing. Hezbollah was utterly dependent on Iran at the time and still is.

The evidence really is overwhelming. I can understand your lack of confidence in intelligence, but in this case it is a slam dunk.

Kyros, do you really mean to tell me that they rated above joke level with you before 911? <After the Iraq WMD fiasco, my confidence in our intelligence agencies dropped precipitously. The revelations about mishandling of pre-9/11 intelligence that prevented us from stopping 9/11, pushed my confidence level to near zero. >

Did you really believe their nonsense about WMDs? How about "Throwing the babies out of incubators to take them back to Iraq"? Were you really surprised that Saddam's concerns about sanctions not being removed if he withdrew from Kuwait were valid? A LOT of interests benefited from Iraq's oil being off the market. Hobbling competitors is always good business.

NZ has a Security Intelligence Service, which is like the village joke. From when I can remember, which goes back to absurd "body counts" in Vietnam, and long before, my experience of authoritarian officialdom has been uniformly bad. It is wise to assume that leopards spots do not change just because you can't see the leopard sometimes.
