The exchange of accusations has coincided with the refusal of US military to release six detained Iranians in Irbil and Sulaymaniya. Spokesman for Iran’s Embassy to Baghdad Mohammed Rida Ahadi said that accusations fired by US Forces Commander in Iraq General David Petraeus are a provocative attitude adopted by US military against Iranian diplomats working in Iraq. He added that accusing Iran of destabilizing Iraq is untrue allegations while he stressed that Ambassador Qomi works as a diplomat in Baghdad for a long time, noting that the latter’s curriculum vitae is filed at Iraqi Foreign Ministry, which proves Petraeus’ allegations wrong. Ahadi considered that US interests conflict with the “close” relationship between Iraq and Iran, thus US opts to arrest diplomats in order to ruin this relationship. Earlier, General Petraeus accused Quds Forces of training Iraqi militias to attack US and Iraqi Forces by providing them with necessary funding to execute operations, supplying them with weapons especially advanced rocket-propelled grenades. He added that reports show that Iran is still interfering widely in Iraq though it vowed not to intervene in Iraq’s internal affairs. Meanwhile, the US Army refused to release the Iranians detained in Iraq saying that the case is critical and is reviewed by a special investigating group in the White House. Moreover, US Army spokesman in Iraq General Kevin Bergner has said that there are many evidence proving that Mohammed Farhadi arrested in Sulaymaniya last month forms with the other five detainees a dangerous armed cell responsible for all armed attacks in northern Iraq, stressing the importance of fighting armed cells. On the other hand, Kurdish border officer Rostom Kukai said that Iran has reopened borders with Kurdistan region after a two weeks closure in protest to US Forces arresting an Iranian citizen in Sulaymaniya. The officer added that Iranian trucks loaded with goods started to enter Iraqi territories while some trucks are heading from Kurdistan to Iran. Read article in Arabic
