Lam Research Says Restatements Likely After Internal Probe Finds Stock Option Discrepancies

FREMONT, Calif. (AP) -- Semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker Lam Research Corp. said Friday that an internal review found discrepancies in the accounting of certain stock option grants, and it will likely take restatements to record non-cash charges for stock-based compensation.
The company also said its financial statements for the fiscal years 1997 through 2005 are unreliable.

The internal probe, which Lam Research announced earlier this year, is ongoing. The probe's preliminary conclusion is that measurement dates for certain stock option grants differ from the recorded grant dates, according to the company.

Most of the stock option grants at issue were prior to fiscal 2003. The company said the internal committee found no intentional misconduct by management.

Shares of Lam Research rose 68 cents to $44.42 Friday.
