There isn't ANY Democrat that won't be demonized in the General Election. Gore would probably be the BEST candidate the Democrats could put up, since he doesn't have the Iraq War on his back and he's already WON one election.

Hillary is playing this as if she's already won the nomination and is trying to play to the CENTER. I think that's a pretty good strategy and probably the reason she's leading in just about every poll. She's comparable to Lieberman in that she can appeal to independents and even some Republicans, just as Joe did.

It's debatable whether the Republican Base would come out and vote in strength just because of their hatred for Hillary if their only option was either an abortion supporting Rudy or a Mormon flipflopper like Romney.

If Obama wants to win the nomination he's going to have to start dramatically differentiating himself from Clinton and Edwards. I don't think he's going to do that because I think he's looking ahead to future elections.
