I really cannot fathom the mental processes at work here. It's as if the limited world view of a 7th century tribesman is so sacred that they feel obliged to keep hold of it.

The Jews have had the dates of Rosh Chodesh (the new moon) absolutely settled for about 2500 years, I believe, if not longer.
And you dare ask, why GOD scattered the Jews around the world?
