Broken Clock,

If you read all of my prior posts, you'd know that I am totally against meddling in the affairs of other countries. I agree 100% that it was our meddling in the middle east that caused many of our problems. How could I consider myself a Ron Paul libertarian and think anything else?

What I can't do is divorce myself from the reality that we did meddle for decades because of oil interests, pro Israel political forces in the US, fear of communism etc... and just live in an idealistic world where we can leave immediately and everything will be just peachy. I don't believe that.

If we were smart we would reduce our dependence on oil as quickly as possible, stop giving billions of dollars of weapons and financial aid to Israel, encourage all our major trading partners to become energy independent or to trade with more stable countries, and get the hell out of there ASAP.

Until that time, I think we are going to be required to help secure the free flow of oil because the world dug itself into this mess over a very long period of time and it will take a long time to fix.

In addition, I consider what is going on in Iraq now to be just a snapshot in time. We won't know the final result until we leave (either quickly or in a decade or so).
