My cousin's family who are a sect of Shia Muslims, can tell you the precise dates that Ramadan and Eid start and end for the next 100 years (at least). As far as they are concerned the moon can hide behind a cloud and never be seen. Does that help ?

<Can you imagine if the US and Canada celebrated Easter on different days?>

Well they could, and do, depending on their rite:

Perhaps you think all Americans and Canadians are of Western rite, and therefore there is no conflict. As far as I know, Easter is not a civil Holiday in either country.
