re: I all for a tax increase to put everyone back on tax rolls, from the very first dollar person makes.

Nobody doesn't pay taxes. Maybe federal income tax exempts some, but I think you are overestimating the number of people. Virtually everything you buy is taxed, most things several times. The poor are paying the same tax as the very rich when they buy a gallon of gas or make a phone call.

You select one minor issue and ignore the major issue. The people with political power in this country are the middle and upper class. As long as you run up infinite deficits, there is no penalty for over spending, and no political pressure to curtail it.

Raise taxes to match spending and the people that count will scream bloody murder.

Of course this is more symbolic than revenue raising idea, since we all know that poor people have modest incomes, and the tax rate would certainly be low, but however modest their contribution, it would convert them from freeloaders back to being stake holders of this country.

Hmmm......you think the poor are free loaders. Then why is it the rich keep getting richer and control more and more of this country's wealth with each passing year?
