No. Why do you think so? It is all about making sure the ones you are related to survive. Altruism, in its various forms, is common in animals who live communally. Given that humans through much of their evolution, lived communally, it should be no surprise that they have that trait.

Infanticide was hardly restricted to the Spartans.

You refer to movies a lot! Do you think the Spartans were representative of people of their time? I'd say they were an very extreme example of early wingnuttery.
