"the middle of a war"

We are - I'd argue - not 'in the middle' of this war (speaking strictly about the occupation of Iraq....)

We are far closer to the end, not the middle of the occupation.

And, however Turkey 'feels' now about the US war and occupation in Iraq (they were NEVER for it, or very cooperative, anyway), that may prove to be of lesser importance in the long run to these other matters.

Also, they have been itching to strike at the Kurdish terrorists harboring inside 'Kurdistan' for quite some time now... have threatened it over and over... so that was coming anyway.
