Let's face it. That is exactly what it boils down to. When people feel threatened, they are likely to do most anything. Like advocating nuking Iran. Or torturing suspected terrorists. Or any number of things that have happened.

Having said that, there are people who have died because they refused to compromise their principles. But, they are rare.

Sadly.
