The green line could also be a imperfect a head and shoulders with 2000 looking more and more like the year that the US jumped the shark (the top of the head). Others have equated this pattern to getting "flipped the bird".

From 2001-2004, yes it could be called a cup and handle but it didn't follow through so it wasn't a true one. The H&S interpretation is more valid in my book since it at least track with the normal loss of real net worth for most during chronic of hyper inflations.

The Fed sure is walking a razor's edge and it'll surprise me greatly if the green CPI+lies adjusted line goes up much for the average household.
