Re: "Bush to Get Tough on Porky Republicans"

Quite a bit late in the day, isn't it?

(Still... fiscal prudence, however delayed and minimal, is still to be encouraged.)

Too bad though that he's *still* trying to get his war spending 'off-budget' --- for those 'off-budget supplementals' unfortunately still FAR EXCEED the halting little stabs as parsimony he is making such a public relations spectacle about elsewhere....

The good news though (if my memory for current events serves me) is that Congress has told the President that IN HIS LAST FULL YEAR OF OFFICE, 2008, finally... they will no longer accept any more excuses from the admin. that it's 'impossible' to use the normal budget process to fund the war --- and war budgeting will have to be rolled into the general government budgets... (as it always has been in years and wars past).

So, it will no longer be 'invisible' as far as deficit figures and projections... PAYGO rules for spending in other areas of the federal budget, etc.
