It does make sense if the American culture could assimilate the border cultures, but I hardly think that would happen. There would be massive attempts to gain the upper hand from all sides.

I do understand your point about our culture having too much time to adopt self-destructive behaviors. I hope we employ our intellect to avoid that, but I fear that politically correct thinking will prevent it.
