I hear your points, Nadine. Yet wrt Sanchez's hitting the media and the partisans, that's hardly news - loads of people have criticized both during this long debacle. What *was* news was a person at this military level speaking about the "imcompetence" etc of the Bush admin. I suspect you'd agree that this message certainly stood out as something dramatically different and hence newsworthy.

Even DrudgeReport ran the story that way. Hardly a liberal rag, as you know.

Wrt "phoney soldiers". I know Rush later claimed he was referring to a single particular soldier. You might believe him, but I don't. Rush has a long history of character problems. For example, I remember him wanting all drug users to be locked up (criminals!), while denying his own illegal drug use. Or Rush getting his 4F military deferment while pushing others to go to war (including my father). In my book, that kind of person doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. But I understand if you feel differently.

Lastly, I'm not the "left". I've voted both GOP and Dem over the years. I hold largely liberal social beliefs, but I'm also a successful capitalist and quite rightwing in other areas (such as crime, schools and the military). I think a big part of the problem in the US is the black/white polarization: you are either left or right. No center, no in-between, no nuances, no compromises. You're one or the other, good or evil.

That conceptual model hasn't helped this country.
