I love it! In fact, the first four paragraphs are pretty close to my own retirement speech, that I composed in my head and did not deliver. I did not attend the salmon feed where they were going to give me their version of a gold watch either. Actually, I had a previous engagement, and since I had told them I wanted no special event I didn't realize the secret behind the salmon feed. Have you seen "About Schmidt?" It came out about the same time that I retired, and it was a perfect reflection of how I felt. As for the politics, satire or not, that letter is dead on.
