Just for anyone interested, you left out that ABC ran a special on "phony soldiers" two days before Rush's show.

Note the use of plural "phony soldier(s). And the fact that Jesse MacBeth (the guy that Rush later said was the ONLY phony soldier) gets mentioned a couple minutes *after* the phony soldier phrase.

Rush had been discussing Jesse Macbeth and Scott Thomas Beauchamp in the hour before this call. I agree you can't tell it from that one section, but it's clear from the larger context what Rush was thinking of.

There is a longstanding pattern, dating back to Vietnam Vets against the War, of men claiming to be vets repenting of commiting war crimes, who made it all up but whose stories were nonetheless accepted uncritically.

This is naturally a pattern Rush keeps harping on.
