Ah the battle of Gettysburg. In effect the south did attack Seminary Ridge - from the south. Had they gone around to the right history may have been different. Had Joshua Chamberlain not fixed bayonetts and charged history may also have been different. I have always wondered what Lee was thinking on day 3. I have always thought he was reaching for the inside straight in a desparate gamble to win. Anything short of a big victory was a defeat. Remember Vicksburg fell on July 4.
