I think it's just the human condition. I've seen this all around the world, not just the US. Folks like their booze, their nicotine, their weed, their coke. Right now the US has the money, so we probably spend more on drugs. But in 20 years I bet China will be #1. We have Mormon friends who I use to think were the great exceptions. Clean living!Never touched a beer, never smoked a joint. And then we learned they were all on anti-depressants. Made them "feel better". As Chris Rock says "folks just wanna get high".
