I read the article with my coffee earlier this morning
and thought they're taking big risks at that latitude.
Every few years a blocking ridge sets up along 140W,
builds into Alaska and the Yukon, and arctic cold builds.

Global warning hasn't repealed basic weather patterns
that can still develop and put the Okanogan valley
into the deep freeze.

(fwiw, I type this from home, just a dumb guy on SI--
not as a gov't meteorologist)
