You are smearing one of our greatest presidents, a man of utmost ethics and morality, a true Christian who never took the Lord's name in vain to try and pander to extremists, a veteran officer who served on a nuclear submarine, a Nobel prize winning peacemaker and champion of the poor who for awhile united this country and taught southern whites it's okay not to be bigoted and narrow-minded. That period was the South's finest hour of late, the New South, they called it, before the Southern Strategy of the Bush and Reagan rightwing worked overtime to re-divide and push hatred, intolerance, ignorance and backward thinking, because they figured out racism helped them get elected. As for the Shah, there wasn't a damn thing any US president could have done about his demise. He was a dictator who forgot about his own people and cared only about his own life of luxury. The creeps who took over for him were no good, but the Shah was no champion of anyone except US arms dealers and sellers of luxury goods in Paris and Gstaad. He spent more time helicopter skiing than he did working on the welfare of his own people, and that alone is why he fell. By the time Carter came into power the Shah was already finished. Plus there was no rational military option to help prop him up. He went into exile soon after then got terminal cancer. Only after that did the hostage crisis begin. So much for rightwing lies and revisionist history. Also, Carter ordered a very daring rescue mission which for some strange reason was either sabotaged or doomed by freak sandstorms. I have always suspected the Ollie North types were behind sabotaging that mission so as to keep Carter from getting re-elected.
