Seems to me much of the irresponsible fringe (I like that term) has negative net worth and is in debt slavery. Best thing that can happen is he gets out from under those nasty payments, upside down mortgage and goes back to being a renter again. As long as he still has a job little will actually change other than the huge writeoff for the lender down the road.. He might even have some more dough left over every month now for other 'stuff'..
